May 26, 2022 – Last year’s American Speed U.S. Nationals is a sore subject for Jason Blonde. It is a win that he feels got away. Blonde is hoping to rebound from his misfortune last year and bring home the victory laurels this Saturday May 28, when the Must See Racing National Touring Series presented by Engine Pro invades Kalamazoo Speedway.
The event was originally a two-day format. But with the forecast for heavy rains Friday, officials on Thursday consolidated everything into a one-day format on Saturday.
The 8-time Super Sprints champion was leading late in last year race. It appeared that a victory was all but assured. He had built a comfortable lead and was cruising. Then a late race caution and a double file restart changed everything. On the restart his car drifted towards the wall, and he slipped to fourth in the closing laps of the race. His was a crushing defeat in blonde’s eyes.
Blonde, who will be making his first pavement sprint car race since last August, recently explained his misfortune last year. “After that caution came out, I didn’t keep my tires warm and clean” remembers Blonde. “On the restart when I went into the corner it wouldn’t turn. I fell back to fourth on that restart. It’s my fault. I feel like it slipped away. It’s my fault for not keeping my tires scuffed off. I kinda forgot about it”.
Blonde has thought about that race several times since last year. But he will have a chance to redeem himself this weekend. “I kick myself every day for that. MSR does double-file restarts. I picked the outside lane just because my car was working so good on the outside. That didn’t work well on the restart because I went right to the wall when I throttled up. I almost had to get out of the gas going by the flag stand and that allowed Jimmy McCune to drive right past me. I f I had it to do all over again I would have chosen the bottom lane” laughs Blonde.
Blonde will have another chance to claim an American Speed U.S. Nationals trophy this weekend. In addition, Kalamazoo Speedway is a track he likes. “I really like Kalamazoo Speedway. The way the car has been the last couple of years at Kalamazoo, we’ve been pretty stout. A win is definitely what we’re looking for as long as the driver does his part and keeps the tires under him” concluded Blonde.
The American Speed U.S. Nationals will now be a one-night event on Saturday. The Maxima Racing Oils Midwest Lights will also be in action giving fans a double-header of winged asphalt sprint car racing. Also included will be the Ohio Wheelman Series, Midwest Compact Touring Series, and MCR Dwarf Cars.
The event is expected to draw a huge national media presence. Saturday nights complete racing program will be streamed live on Speed Sport TV. A monthly subscription will allow you see view the events if you are unable to attend in person. Go to SPEEDSPORT.tv/subscribe for details. In addition, the event will be taped delayed for broadcast at a later date on SPEEDSPORT/MAVTV.

May 25, 2022 – McCune Motorsports will play a big part in the weekends 2nd annual American Speed U.S. Nationals at Kalamazoo Speedway this Friday and Saturday May 27-28. But the team will only bring two cars at this year’s race due to engine woes at the last Must See Racing events in South Boston, Virginia last month. The team will still be just as potent none-the-less.
McCune Motorsports has won every single Must See Racing National Touring Series presented by Engine Pro championship for the past 6 seasons dating back to 2018, with drivers Jimmy McCune and Anthony McCune. The team is off to a great start in 2022 with driver Jacob Dolinar sitting 4th in points.
Meridian, Idaho driver Colton Nelson was slated to be behind the wheel of a third McCune car this weekend, joining Dolinar and Jimmy McCune. Nelson is no stranger to winged asphalt sprint car competition. He is a former Speed Tour champion and the defending ‘Pink Lady Classic’ champion after he pocketed $20,000 for winning the event last September. Nelson was set to make his first MSR start this weekend. Nelson will now join the team later sometime this season.
McCune is having the worst start of his MSR career after a pair of DNF’S at South Boston last month as its still early in the 2022 season. “I think I can make up some ground but it’s gonna be tough. I’m not worrying about the championship. I just wanna get my stuff running and rolling right. I am looking forward to getting back in the car at Kalamazoo. It should be fun getting to run two nights this year instead of one like we did last year due to the rain”.
The McCune Motorsports team McCune and Dolinar will have its work cut out for it as they will face a very stout lineup of drivers at the American Speed U.S. Nationals. Some very big names have already entered including Jason Blonde, Ryan Litt, Joe Liguori, and Charlie Schultz among many others.
The weekend kicks off Friday night with a complete racing program that also includes the Maxima Racing Oils Midwest Lights Series. The racing action will continue the next night with another complete program on tap for the Must See Racing National Touring Series.

May 19, 2022 – When the Must See Racing Sprint Series presented by Engine Pro invades Kalamazoo Speedway next weekend, It will do so with a familiar face.
Canadian driver Ryan Litt will be making his North American sprint car start for the first time in three seasons during the May 27-28 American Speed U.S. Nationals. Litt has been unable to cross the Canadian border due to Covid-19 restrictions. Travel to the states has been very difficult for Canadian Citizens due to policies instated by the Canadian government during the height of COVID-19. For Litt, he’s beyond excited to get back behind the wheel of his winged pavement sprint car.
“When COVID-19 first hit I wasn’t too worried about it because I thought it would be over pretty quick” explains Litt. “I got the car ready during that time like I normally do. It got stretched out way longer than anybody anticipated. It didn’t really affect the U.S. too bad because you guys kept racing. Because we couldn’t cross the border, we were pretty much stuck at home. I haven’t even attended a race because everything was shut down up here. It’s been a pretty long wait to say the least. I downloaded FloRacing, DIRTVision, and MAVTV to keep up with everything, but I haven’t been to a track since 2019”.
Despite the lengthy layoff, Litt is confident he can find success during the American Speed U.S. Nationals. Litt did compete in South Africa a few weeks before COVID-19 shut the world down. Kalamazoo Speedway is a track he has found victory lane at previously during his career.
“Kalamazoo is a really small, fast, wide-open track where you’re always turning. You don’t have much of a chance to take a breath. It’s probably gonna feel super-fast for me getting back into it. Its like riding a bike. I’ve been driving sprint cars long enough to know what to expect after a few laps. I like the track. Generally, towards the end of the race there is two grooves. I’m pumped. You always go to win, but if I could finish on the podium both nights, it would be a great start to the season”.
“I have life-long friends in the racing community I haven’t even got to see the past three years. Its gonna be fun to get back and see all my buddies again. I haven’t even got to smell methanol in a few years, so I’m looking forward to that maybe the most” concluded Litt.
The second annual American Speed U.S. nationals kicks off May 27 and will also include the Maxima Racing Oils Midwest Lights Series, the Ohio Wheelman, National Compacts and the MCR Dwarf Cars. The two-day event will conclude the following evening.
The live broadcast will be the “SPEED SPORT Spotlight Event” for the week, and available free for SPEEDSPORT.tv subscribers. Through the month of May, SPEED SPORT is offering special subscription pricing at $14.99/mo or just $99.00 for a full year. Fans can sign up at SPEEDSPORT.tv/subscribe
May 10, 2022 – With the 2nd annual American Speed U.S. Nationals just a little over three weeks away, it didn’t appear Joe Liguori would be participating in this year’s event until Monday afternoon. The Must See Racing Sprint Series presented by Engine Pro will be contesting its second edition of the American Speed U.S. Nationals at Kalamazoo Speedway May 27-28.
2021 Must See Racing Sprint Car Series “American Speed U.S. Nationals” At Kalamazoo – (HIGHLIGHTS)
Liguori was involved in a hard crash on the final lap of the April 30 MSR event at South Boston Speedway. Liguori’s machine was destroyed while battling for second place coming to the checkered. The only good news, Liguori still managed to finish third despite a destroyed race car.
MSR did not tally points or award a series champion in 2021 due to the uncertainty of COVID-19, had the series crowned a champion, Liguori would have been the 2021 MSR champion. Entering 2022, Liguori was one of the favorites to win this year’s title chase.
Liguori confirmed on Monday afternoon that he, along with wife Lynsey, daughter Emilee, and Brad Ringer were hard at work getting a new Bernie Hallisky built car ready in time for the Memorial Day Weekend.
“I’ve been building a non-winged car” Liguori explained Monday afternoon. “We did plan to run the new car with a wing a few times. With the circumstances now, that is now our primary wing car. We’ll get the
Hurricane fixed when we can. The “X” car will be making its debut at Kalamazoo”. Its no secret Liguori would like to claim the 2022 MSR championship and his most recent thrash to get the new car finished in time for the American Speed U.S. Nationals is evidence.
”I was talking to Bernie Hallisky and we were bantering back and fourth as to which car to run. “I know we can win this championship. I just have a lot more fun running the wing cars. The non-wing cars are fun, but I have a lot more fun running the wing cars. They’re such fun cars to drive. We have a shot at winning this championship. Why don’t we keep chasing this. So that’s what we’re doing. We’re gonna be ready for Kalamazoo”.
Liguori took the time to explain the South Boston wreck in detail as he remembered it.”The motor was fading on longer runs. The last couple of laps I was just trying to make it to the end. I saw Jacob Dolinar up top of me a lap before. The way the track was you were committed on exit. I was lower than I normally was, and the car started pushing up the hill. Coming to the checkered I let it go because I figured if I could get it straight I’d beat him to the line because I thought I could horsepower him to the line.
It got to where I knew that wasn’t gonna happen. I rolled out of the gas, and it took off to him. I don’t know, I still feel like I’m a little inexperienced at some of that stuff. When your wide open like that everything happens so quick. When I made contact, it just ricocheted me down into the inside wall”.
With a renewed sense of urgency and a new car, Liguori also hinted that a new look might be in store. “Thanks to Indy Powder Coating, the car is gonna have a different look, but that’s all I’ll say” laughed Liguori.
Entries continue to plie for the 2nd annual American Speed U.S. Nationals as drivers from several states have already entered the May 27-28 two-day event. The festival of speed will also include an appearance of the Maxima Racing Oil’s Midwest Lights Series on Friday night as well has honoring our veterans all weekend long with several events planned.

May 6, 2022 – North Wilkesboro Speedway released its updated schedule on Thursday afternoon, and it revealed that the Must See Racing Sprint Series presented by Engine Pro will be there for a two-race weekend August 12-13 as part of the tracks reopening. A practice date will be held on August 11.
The historic 0.625-mile track, located 80 miles north of Charlotte, was an annual mainstay on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule for decades until the track closed after the 1996 season. Jeff Gordon won that last race on September 29, 1996. The track features a unique uphill backstretch and downhill outstretch and is highly popular with race fans. The track re-opened briefly in 2010 for a handful of stock car events before shuttering for good.
Must See Racing’s appearance at North Wilkesboro will be the first-time winged sprint cars have ever visited the track that originally opened in 1949. Must See Racing’s debut at North Wilkesboro will be dependent on a test that will be conducted at the track in the near future.
Details Monday were scarce, but MSR president Jim Hanks did confirm the event and indicated more details will be announced in the coming days. “We really appreciate the opportunity as we look forward to competing at such a historically significant track with its rich racing history. It is a real honor to be a part of this high-profile grass roots event.”
Although the purse and event details haven’t been firmed up, it is expected that each night will pay $4,000 to win and be highlighted by a 25-lap feature event each night. With the Steadfast For Veterans Challenge money, fast qualifier bonus, and heat race monies, a driver who sweeps both nights could potentially walk off with $10,400.
The track will host a series of races on the asphalt in August before the asphalt is removed and the track will become dirt for multiple races in October. The track will be repaved later in the year will a full staple of races on the new asphalt in the future.
This will be the first time MSR has competed at a track that has featured NASCAR Cup events in the past since it raced at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2011. The all-time existing track record is expected to fall once the powerful winged 410 sprint cars hit the track.
MSR also indicated that SPEED SPORT / MAVTV would play a key role in this event and further broadcast details will be announced one they are finalized.
The track has played an important part of American motorsports history. All three of NASCAR’s premier divisions have competed at the track over the years. The all-time winners list is a who’s who of racing greats. Fireball Roberts, Junior Johnson, Lee Petty, Richard Petty, David Pearson, Bobby Allison, Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, Mark Martin, and Dale Earnhardt are just a few of the greats who have graced victory lane at North Wilkesboro.

Both the Must See Racing Sprint Series presented by Engine Pro and the Maxima Racing Oils Must See Racing Midwest Lights Series will head line two days of racing action over Memorial Day Weekend May 27-28.
This year’s event will feature more than just a baraza of racing. It will celebrate the sacrifices U.S. armed forces members have made over the years as well as many U.S. airpower aircraft that will be on display in the air as well as on the ground. The following night May 28 the MSR National Series will return along with the MCR Dwarf Cars, MCTS, and Ohio Wheelman Street Stocks.
The weekends action won’t be relegated to the track. Pre-race festivities will include a WWII Warbird flyover performed by the Hooligan Flight Team. In addition, a Vietnam era Huey Helicopter will be on display for fans to get an up-close look at.
In addition to honoring out service members past and present, pre-race festivities will also include participation from the Honor Guard and Bagpipe Corps. A 21 Gun Salute will also be performed.
MSR marketing partner Steadfast For Veterans will be playing a significant part in this year’s event. They will be sponsoring the 2022 Steadfast Veterans Challenge. If the Fast Qualifier elects to start from the rear, and wins the feature event, he will pick up an extra $1000. In addition, Steadfast For Veterans will be hosting the cook out for veterans during the event.
Steadfast For Veterans is a non-profit organization that provides housing for homeless veterans. 2020 is the second consecutive season MSR has teamed up with Steadfast For Veterans to bring awareness to the cause.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (April 30, 2022) – What took Bobby Santos nearly half the race on Friday night at South Boston Speedway took less than two laps Saturday night. It also ended in the same result.
Santos secured his second straight Must See Racing Sprint Car Series presented by Engine Pro victory to open the 2022 season by surging from fourth on the grid to the top spot in less than two laps. He passed outside polesitter Joe Liguori in turn three on lap two of 30 and led the remaining distance.
The Franklin, Mass., native beat eventual runner-up Jacob Dolinar by 8.978 seconds at the checkered flag to complete a sweep of Sentara Healthcare American Sprint Car Weekend at the four-tenths-mile paved oval. It was his fourth career win with the winged 410 pavement sprint car tour.
“The guys did a great job and really gave me everything that I needed again,” said Santos in victory lane. “I just hope that everyone is OK (for the next race out), because a lot of guys had tough luck this weekend with motors and other things … and you never want to see that in a series as competitive as this one. That’s a bit of a bummer as a group, but it was a lot of fun racing this winged car tonight.”
The most exciting moment of the feature came after Santos had taken the checkered flag, when Dolinar and Liguori touched wheels exiting the final corner while battling for runner-up honors.
(From left) Bobby Santos, Jacob Dolinar and Joe Liguori celebrate on the podium following Saturday’s Must See Racing sprint car feature at South Boston Speedway. (Must See Racing photo)
That contact sent Liguori spinning into the inside wall, destroying his Hurricane Chassis No. 13, while Dolinar crossed the finish line just ahead of Liguori.
“I had a really good run on the outside. I was past him, from what I could tell, coming out of the corner,” Dolinar explained afterward. “Joe told me that his front wheels locked (up), and he just didn’t have any turn coming up out of the corner and slid up into me. We’re lucky we didn’t end up crashed as well.
“Just a good night for us, though. Second’s not what we want, but we’re getting closer to a victory.”
Despite being backward and having pieces flying off his race car, Liguori still managed to reach the checkered flag and was scored with a third-place finish.
“We were just really tight,” Liguori lamented, taking responsibility for the crash. “As soon as I saw [Dolinar] on the outside, I tried to race him up off the corner and basically just pushed right up the track. When I rolled out of it to give him the spot, the car just went right up into him.
“I guess I kind of did it to myself,” he added. “I don’t want his guys to think I was trying to run him into the fence, because that wasn’t what I was after at all. We’ll be back with a new car for the next race.”
Just one caution flag slowed the pace Saturday, waving on lap 17 and erasing a three-quarter lap lead that Santos had built up over the rest of the field.
Night one fast qualifier Charlie Schultz, who set the all-time South Boston Speedway track record at 12.051 seconds Friday, finished fourth and two-time Must See Racing champion Troy DeCaire was fifth.
Santos set fast time to open the program Saturday, turning a lap of 12.321 seconds (116.874 mph) in his Richard Fieler-owned No. 22a. Rick Holley and Liguori split the pair of eight-lap heat races held prior to the main event.
The Must See Racing sprint car season continues May 27-28 at Kalamazoo (Mich.) Speedway with the second annual American Speed U.S. Nationals. Full programs will be contested on both nights.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (April 29, 2022) – Getting to the front of the field at South Boston Speedway was the hardest part Friday night for seventh-starting Bobby Santos.
Once he got there, staying ahead of the pack was simple.
Santos cruised to the opening victory of the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series presented by Engine Pro season with a dominant late-race performance at the four-tenths-mile, semi-banked oval. He picked his way forward early, then surged past outside polesitter and early race leader Troy DeCaire in lap traffic on the 14th circuit of a fast-paced 30-lap feature.
From that point on, Santos never looked back.

Despite a caution at the halfway point – brought on after DeCaire slowed in turn three with a right-rear tire issue – Santos roared away from his closest pursuers. He held off fast qualifier Charlie Schultz on the lone restart of the night and steadily drove away to a 4.651-second victory in the familiar black No. 22a fielded by veteran car owner Richard Fieler.
It was the first visit for Must See Racing to South Boston and the first series event ever held in the state of Virginia.
Friday night’s triumph marked the third career Must See Racing sprint car victory for Santos, the 2010 champion of NASCAR’s Whelen Modified Tour. All three of Santos’ Must See Racing wins have come at different facilities.
“We had a great car, right from the start of the race,” Santos explained in victory lane. “I can’t thank Dick (Fieler) enough; he gives me all the resources to come out here and perform like we did tonight. Honestly, we’ve all been chasing the McCune family in the series for so long that you wonder if anyone else is ever going to end up on top … but it felt good to have Jim (McCune) come over and congratulate us after that one.
“They’ve been the model of consistency and excellence here and I’m happy we could give them a run tonight,” Santos continued. “It was crazy sketchy coming up through the field, but when you have a great race car, you can be confident in the moves you’re making and that’s how I felt out there all night.”
Schultz was aiming for a clean sweep of the season opener after setting a new all-time track record (12.051 seconds, 119.492 mph) in qualifying and winning the third of three 10-lap sprint car heat races Friday night.
Afterward, however, the Ohio native and past Midwest Supermodified Ass’n champion admitted that Santos was simply too strong in clean air once he got to the lead.
“A lot of that race came down to getting out front first, and he just beat us to the clean air,” Schultz lamented. “My hat goes off to Bobby and his whole team; he really did a great job. I had a feeling that it would come down to the two of us, and we weren’t disappointed. We just didn’t adjust quite enough for how the track conditions were after the late model feature … we were just way too tight in the main.
“He had a better car and could get through traffic a little quicker than I could,” added Schultz. “We’ll learn from this one and try to come back tomorrow and end up one spot better.”
Jacob Dolinar, the 2020 Must See Racing rookie of the year and 2021 Most Improved Driver with the series, completed the podium in one of his strongest career efforts with the pavement winged sprint car tour. Joe Liguori crossed fourth, the final car on the lead lap due to a high attrition rate Friday night.
Five-time series champion Jimmy McCune and DeCaire were among those who failed to finish the opening night of Sentara Health American Sprint Car Weekend because of various mechanical issues.
Sixteen sprint cars signed in to compete at South Boston. Schultz’s fast time in qualifying was the first of his Must See Racing career, while Tom Jewell, DeCaire and Schultz each won their respective heat races.
Both nights of the Sentara Health American Sprint Car Weekend will be tape-delayed for broadcast on SPEED SPORT Presents on MAVTV. Broadcast dates and times will be announced later.
Must See Racing will conclude the weekend at South Boston on Saturday night with a second complete program. The action will be co-headlined by twin 75s for the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series late models.

April 28, 2022 – When the Must See Racing Sprint Series presented by Engine Pro visits South Boston Speedway this weekend, the all-time existing track record is certain to fall. But how much is anyone’s guess. It will be the first time in the history of the historic 4/10-mile track, that first opened in 1957, that wing 410 sprint cars have raced there.
Of the field of 20 expected drivers, only Jimmy McCune, Bobby Santos III, and Charlie Schultz have raced at SOBO previously. Each shared their thoughts Wednesday afternoon on what the new all-time track record might fall to. The existing all-time SOBO track record is 13.849 seconds currently held by Tommy Catalano in a NASCAR modified. Each of these drivers indicated that it had been so long ago that they raced at SOBO, that they weren’t sure what to expect this go around.
I was there one time probably in the early 2000’s and it was in a Focus midget actually” Santos explained. “I don’t remember anything about to be honest. But my guess would be that we’ll probably take the record down to 12.2 the way the track is today. That would be my guess. I really don’t know what to expect. I just need to figure out my gear and start from there”.
As for McCune. He competed in a USAC National Midget Series / USAC National Sprint Car Series double header on October 13, 2021. “I ran a midget and sprint car there on the same night but that was years ago. I don’t remember much about it. But I’ve been doing some research on the track and watching videos. I’m gonna guess we’ll put down a 12.5 second lap. Watching videos, it looks like there will be passing and good racing. There’s an apron and some guys are gonna use it, you just know that.
I’m thinking with the guys we got coming this weekend, it’s as strong as any field of cars we’ve had in the last 10 years. With the quantity and quality of cars that are supposed to come, I think it’s gonna be a stout field and the best we’ve seen in the last 7-8 years”.
For Schultz, he too ran a Focus midget in the early 2000’s and his memory of the place is also vague.” The track is like one I run near home. It’s a lot like Lorain Raceway Park in terms of size. I’m thinking we might get the record down to 12.6 if I had to guess.
