GRIMM ENTERS MUST SEE RACING OPENER AT SOUTH BOSTON
April 14, 2022 – Seffner, Florida’s LJ Grimm indicated Wednesday afternoon that he has entered the Must See Racing Sprint Series presented by Engine Pro season opening events at South Boston Speedway in Virginia April 29-30. Grimm will be driving for Florida car owner Taylor Andrews.
In his first full season of asphalt sprint car competition in 2021, Grimm scored a remarkable 10 feature victories which was second best in the country last season. His wins contained both winged and non-winged with the Showtime Speedway sprint series and the BG Products Southern Sprint Car Shoutout Series.
This will not be the first-time has competed with MSR. Grimm competed in last year’s American Speed U.S. Nationals at Kalamazoo Speedway. Unfortunately, rain and mechanical issues left him with very little track time and a DNF in the Saturday finale.
Grimm is hoping for a much better weekend this go around as he will be with his regular team that he scored all 10 of his victories with last season. He realizes success at South Boston Speedway against the MSR regulars will be a monumental task, but he is up to the challenge.
“I mention these events to my car owner Taylor Andrews,” explained Grimm. “He looked into it and called Jim Hanks. I think maybe Jim Hanks talked him into it and here we are”.
This will be the first time the team has ventured outside of Florida where they compete regularly with the winged 360 Southern Sprint Car Shootout Series. Grimm’s teammate Sport Allen captured the season championship in 2021. It is unclear to date it Allen will join Grimm in Virginia for these events, but it is highly possible.
With minimal 410 experience and competing on the different American Racer tires, Grimm realizes he will on a fast track to figure things out. “I’m sure things will be a little different. But at the end of the day everyone is on the same tire. We’ll have to see how things play out in practice.”
The competition level in MSR is the toughest in the country as far as I’m concerned pavement sprint car wise. Jimmy McCune, Jason Blonde, and Bobby Santos are some of the toughest in the country. There will be 5-10 cars that could easily win. Hopefully we can have some luck go our way and get a win.”
When Grimm was asked what he would classify as a successful weekend at South Boston Speedway he was very humble with his response. “If I could put 2 top 5 finishes together both nights and keep the car in one piece I’d say that would be a good weekend” concluded Grimm. Based on his 2021 stats he would have to be considered a front runner heading into these events.
