SOUTH BOSTON TO KICK OFF 2022 MSR 410 SEASON
April 7, 2022 – The 2022 Must See Racing Sprint Series presented by Engine Pro is a little over three weeks away. The series will open the 2022 schedule at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Virginia April 29-30. The two-day format will include two complete nights of racing. The weekend is being billed as the American Sprint Car Weekend presented by SENTARA.
This will be the first time in the tracks 65-year history that winged sprint cars have visited the 4/10 mile slightly banked asphalt oval. The all-time track record is certain to fall as is usually the case when MSR visits a new speedway.
The weekend will kick off on Thursday April 28 with an open practice followed by a barbeque for drivers and crews. The following two nights will see complete racing programs that will include single car qualifying, heat races, B-main (if needed), and 30-lap feature events both nights. In addition, both events will be televised for a future taped delayed broadcast on MAVTV.
Interest in the event is drawing drivers from no less than 7 different states. Drivers from Michigan, Ohio, Massachusetts, Indiana, Florida, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania are expected to compete. Over 20 cars are expected for this event. Early entrants to date include Adam Biltz, Jeff Bloom, Jacob Dollinar, Anthony Linkenhoker, Anthony McCune, Bobby Santos III, Charlie Shultz, Jimmy McCune, Joshua Sexton, Joe Speakman, Joe Liguori, Mike McVetta, Tom Jewell, Tim Henthorne, Todd McQuillen, and Rick Holley. Additional entrants will be announced leading up to the event.
This will be the first time since 2020 that MSR has had a points championship. The series did not award a series champion in 2021 due to COVID-19 concerns and the uncertainty of races that would be held during the pandemic.
The weekend will also feature a couple drivers to keep an eye on. Jeff Bloom will be entering his fifty-sixth season of competition and will be looking to add to his all-time win total. Jimmy McCune will be looking for his sixth career MSR championship. Due to no championship format in 2021, Anthony McCune is the defending MSR champion and will be looking to repeat.
Although the South Boston events will be the season opener for the 410 series. MSR will kick of the 2022 season when the Maxima Racing Oil’s Midwest Lights Series opens a week earlier on April 23 at Lorain Raceway Park in South Amherst, Ohio.
